Finance Minister Franz-Josef Strauss, Christian Socialist Union (CSU) leader, today apparently reversed himself and said that he would vote in favor of the Cabinet bill to abolish the statute of limitations on prosecution of Nazi war criminals. He had earlier expressed opposition to it.
Answering a news conference question posed by JTA’s Bonn correspondent Alfred Wolfmann, Mr. Strauss said that the Bundestag (lower house of Parliament) might propose amendments to the measure. The CSU is the Bavarian wing of Chancellor Kurt Georg Kiesinger’s Christian Democratic Union. The party functions only in Bavaria.
