Strenuous efforts are being made by the HIAS-ICA Emigration Association to canalize, guide and help migration of some thousands of Jews from the free zone. The association’s staff is working overtime to complete the records of more than 7,000 applications of Jewish emigrants who hope to leave for overseas within a reasonable time.
The steamer Alcynia will sail for Brazil on Jan. 15 from Marseille with 120 Jewish emigrants aboard, bound for various countries North, Central and South America. Most of these are leaving with the assistance of the HIAS-ICA. It is hoped here that there will be regular sailings to North and South America, enabling Jewish emigrants to sail directly from Marseille, thus avoiding costly and time-consuming transits via Spain and Portugal.
