All cinemas in this city and Haifa were closed down last night in a labor dispute arising from a demand for higher wages. There is a possibility that movie theatres throughout the country will be shut in a sympathy walk-out.
The situation developed after theatre owners in the two large cities turned down a demand for higher wages. The union then struck one cinema in each of the cities as a warning move. The employers responded by shutting down all cinemas in both cities. Ministry of Labor efforts to mediate have been unsuccessful thus far.
