Striking gains in the employment of Jews and other members of minority groups in the banking industry were reported here this week-end by Charles Abrams, chairman of the New York State Commission Against Discrimination.
Citing evidence of a change in this and other industries in which few Jews had been employed 13 years ago when SCAD began its activities, Mr. Abrams called the lessening of bias in employment a “marvelous tribute” to the legislation. He noted that from a handful of Jews employed by Bankers Trust Company in 1949, the number had grown to 370 with 75 listed as bank officials.
