Jewish student representatives from several countries met here today to discuss measures they would take in connection with the forthcoming trials of 31 Russian Jews. The first of the trials was scheduled to open in Leningrad last Friday but was postponed until Dec. 15, according to Jewish sources. Today’s meeting was convened by the world executive of the World Union of Jewish Students. On the agenda was coordinated world-wide action to call public attention to the trials. According to Jewish sources the proceedings will be “show trials” intended to intimidate other Soviet Jews who have publicly demanded the right to emigrate to Israel and who have protested the cultural repression of Jews at home. In addition to arousing world opinion, the students plan to express their concern directly to Soviet authorities. The meeting issued a call to Soviet Jews to keep up their courage and continue to struggle for their rights.
