Police detained 20 Hebrew University students yesterday after they clashed with guards at United Nations headquarters here. The students, including leaders of the university’s student union, sought to deliver a letter to UN representatives protesting the Security Council’s resolution calling for a Middle East debate next month to which the Palestine Liberation Organization will be invited.
The protestors were not permitted to enter the UN premises at Government House and fist-fights broke out between some of them and UN guards. The letter was eventually delivered but police were called when three students attempted to enter the building and raise the Israeli flag over it.
