Surgical nurses in the Beilinson and Meir hospitals of the Kupat Holim Histadrut sick fund extended what had started out as a one day strike today and remained off duty in efforts to seek higher salaries than those agreed upon by the Hurses Union. The nurses, however, remained near their operating room posts in order to be available for any urgent operations.
Also out on strike today were the members of the Kol Israel “pops” orchestra whose members are only part-time employees of the radio network.
The Jerusalem post office was back in operation today after telephone and telegraph communications workers returned to work this weekend. The stoppage last week had halted all telephone and telegraph communications between Jerusalem and other parts of Israel and abroad. The workers were promised a speedy review of their salary levels.
