A conference of the surviving rabbis of Eastern Europe, including those in Rumania, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary has been called by the Chief Rabbinate here. It will open on August 26.

About 35,000 Rumanian Jews have been repatriated from the sections of the Soviet Union to which they were deported by the Germans, according to statistics released here today. Over 15,000 had been brought back from “Transnistria” by the end of January of this year, and since then 19,000 who come from Bukovina, Moldavia and Transylvania have been repatriated to southern Bukovina, northern Moldavia and to Transylvania. Most of these repatriates are destitute and 16,000 have applied to the Joint Distribution Committee here for assistance, which is being given them.
