The World Jewish Congress here today initiated a search for survivors of the Cracow Jewish community who can give evidence concerning the Nazi deportation of over 2,000 Jews in June 1942.
Cracow Jewry, one of the largest in Poland, was gradually decimated by starvation, epidemics and deportations to annihilation and concentration camps. The 2,000 rounded up in June 1942, were taken to Belzec where they were murdered. The man responsible for the deportation order was Martin Fellenz who is under investigation in West Germany. Anyone who survived the mass round-up or can otherwise give evidence concerning the deportation in June 1942 is requested to contact the World Jewish Congress.
