The Swedish Parliament has passed a law requiring stunning of animals before slaughter, which, Jewish leaders said, has the effect of prohibiting slaughter according to the Jewish ritual.
The law, which was published in the official gazette, goes into effect July 1. It does not apply to poultry slaughter. Rabbinical authorities have held that the stunning of animals before slaughter violates the Jewish ritual.
