Sweden today seized an Israeli ship, the S. S. Nahariya, “at the request of a Norwegian client.” the public prosecutor announced.

The ship was embargoed, it was said, as security against a claim by the Norwegian owners of the tanker Stolt Dagali, which was cut in half, with resulting deaths of 19 Norwegian sailors, when the Stolt Dagali was in a collision with the Zim Israel Navigation Company’s luxury liner, Shalom, last month. The pre-dawn collision took place off the shores of New Jersey several, hours after the Shalom had left New York on the start of a Caribbean cruise. The Norwegian line is suing the owners of the Shalom for $1,500,000 in damages.
