Lord Duncannon, assistant to Sir Neill Malcolm, League of Nations High Commissioner for German Refugees, today completed a flying tour of investigation of the refugees situation in Switzerland, conferred in Basel with relief organizations and then proceeded to Berne where he saw Dr. Richmond, director of the department of police and Justice.
It is understood that Lord Duncannon asked the Government to agree that frontier officials, in accordance with the intergovernmental refugee convention of February, not deport refugees to the Reich, and also asked an increase in the number of temporary residence permits, which are now issued to 1,000 refugees. It is estimated that 2,000 refugees are now in Switzerland.
