A motion that the Union of Swiss Israelitic Communities make a contribution of one thousand francs toward the Keren Hayesod was rejected at the annual meeting of the Union held here in the presence of 40 delegates, representing 17 communities affilited with the Union. The reason for the refusal to grant the subsidy was stated to be that the Union has not at its disposal the funds to contribute for Jewish national purposes.
The convention simultaneously voted a subsidy of one thousand francs for the Emmigdirect , the United Jewish Immigration Committee.
A report submitted to the convention showed that the Orthodox Jews in Switzerland suffer greatly as a result of the Schechita prohibition. The practice of importing Kosher meat from abroad met with great difficulties due to the fluctuation of prices.
