Switzerland’s Swiss central bank should not contribute to the $1.25 billion settlement agreed to last week by the country’s two largest private banks, the Swiss vice president believes. Ruth Dreifuss said the central bank might instead make an additional contribution to a Swiss humanitarian fund created last year for Holocaust survivors. Dreifuss, who is Jewish, is expected to become the Swiss head of state next year under the country’s system of a rotating presidency.
