Sylvian Halff, General Secretary of the “Alliance Israelite, died today in Vichy. Halff was one of the oldest Alliance officials and had held the post of secretary for the past seven years.
He fought as a Captain in the last war and in 1914 was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor for his bravery. A son, serving as a Lieutenant in the French army, was killed in action last year. Halff’s devotion to France was expressed in a book he wrote entitled: “The Loyalty of Alsace-Lorraine Jews Toward France.”
