The synagogue on the Queen Mary, which is soon to make its maiden voyage across the Atlantic, was consecrated today by Dr. J. H. Hertz, chief rabbi of the British Empire.
In an address following the consecration ceremony, Rabbi Hertz pointed out that this was the first time in history that a synagogue had been included in the original construction plans of a ship.
The time-honored ritual of bearing the scrolls of the law around the synagogue was a feature of the ceremony.
