Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein, president of the Synagogue Council of America, today cabled an appeal to Pope Pius, asking him to raise his voice against “the slaughter of Jewish innocents in Poland.”

Pointing out that “words of good counsel” spoken from the pulpits of the churches in Poland would “stay the hands of those now shedding Jewish blood,” the Jewish religious leaders implored the head of the Catholic Church to intercede for the defenseless men, women and children who had survived Nazi persecution.
