A resolution supporting the NRA program and calling on American Jews to use the leisure time ensuing under the five-day week in a rehabilitation of the Sabbath has been adopted by the Synagogue Council of America.

“American Jewry should address itself at once to the task of bringing the Sabbath back to the Jews. It is well known that the Jews did not cease to observe the Sabbath because of indifference or willful rebellion. High honor is due to the moral heroism of those who at the cost of every sacrifice continue to observe the Jewish Sabbath. . . . We must bring to the attention of employers their responsibility for setting an example in utilizing the new leisure for Sabbath observance and attendance at Sabbath services.”

The Union of Orthodox Congregations, the United Synagogue of America, the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, the Rabbinical Council of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations, the Central Conference of American Rabbis and the Rabbinical Assembly of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, members of the council, signed the resolution.
