Synagogue Council Holds Conference

With a view to coordinate orthodox, conservative and reformed elements in Jewish life a united Jewish front in world affairs, the Synagogue Council of America will hold a conference in the community house of Temple Emanu-El this afternoon at two o’clock. Representatives of the three groups will be present.

Among the leaders at the meeting will be Ludwig Vogelstein, chairman of the executive board of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; Louis J. Moss, president of the Union Synagogues of America, and William Weiss, president of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America.

Each of the Synagogue Council’s six affiliated organizations will send ten delegates, who, together with the thirty-six members of the council, will make a Committee of Ninety-Six to draw up plans and present them to American Jewry. State Senator Albert Wald, president of the Synagogue Council, will preside at the conference.

The agenda for the conference is being prepared by a committee headed by Dr. David de Sola Pool of the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue. The committee includes Rabbi Edward Israel of Baltimore, Rabbi Elias Margolis of Mount Vernon, Rabbi Jacob B. Pollak of Brooklyn, and Morris Engelman.
