For the first time in 2,000 years, a synagogue was opened in Nazareth last week in time for the Yom Kippur services. The synagogue, located in the center of the town, was opened to meet the needs of immigrants settling in new homes erected in the area and for government officials living in Nazareth.

Plans are underway for a second synagogue to be built on hills overlooking the city. Most of the immigrant housing projects are planned in the area of these hills.
