Synagogues in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and the Florida panhandle are canceling High Holiday services in the face of Hurricane Ivan. Expecting 100-mile-per-hour winds, torrential rain and dangerous conditions, some Southern synagogues have canceled services as local authorities urge residents to evacuate the area or hunker down for the storm.
