More than 20 synagogues in Transylvania have been converted into Communist Youth clubs by the Rumanian authorities, it was reported here today. The religious articles belonging to these synagogues have been transferred to the Jewish community in Cluj.
The report says that that the Rumanian authorities are making preparations to occupy the buildings of 40 more synagogues in towns where Jews are getting ready to emigrate to Israel.
