Synagogues representing the three major streams in the New York area are establishing a “Unity Forest” in Israel to celebrate the Jewish state’s 50th anniversary. Working under the aegis of the Jewish National Fund, 45 synagogues have committed $5000 each to plant 1,000 trees in the Negev. The campaign begun in February and is slated to end in September.
