Syracuse Summer Institute for Jewish Youth Leaders

The first Summer Institute of its kind, a school for teachers of Jewish religious institutions, club leaders and communal workers, has been inaugurated on the campus of the Syracuse University. The teaching staff, which offers a two-weeks course based on Jewish youth education, includes Dr. Emanuel Gamoran, educational director of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; Ben Edidan, director of the Board of Jewish Education in Buffalo; Rabbi Jacob B. Pollack, regional rabbi of the Northeastern Religious Union; Ezekiel Londow, member of the Jewish Welfare Board; Dr. Jacob Kwalwasser of the Syracuse College of Fine Arts; George M. Hyman, chairman of the educational board of the New York State Y. M. and Y. W. H. A.; Prof. William Biddle of Western Reserve University, and Fred K. Zerbe, director of the Syracuse Boys’ Club.

The local Teachers’ Summer Institute, which opened with the enrollment of 35 members, is sponsored by the Northeastern Religious Union, the regional division of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, with the cooperation of the Syracuse University, the local Sisterhood of Temple Society of Concord, Sisterhood of Temple Adath Yeshurun, Syracuse Council of Jewish Women and local Jewish Communal Center.
