Syria accused Israel today of “paralyzing” the Israeli-Syrian Mixed Armistice Commission so that the commission could not function “due to Israeli obduracy in boycotting its regular meetings since 1951 until the present date.”
The charges were made in a letter to the Security Council by Syria’s Ambassador, George J. Tomeh, in answer to an Israeli complaint, filed March 7. In that complaint, Israel accused Syria of responsibility for the suspension of an extraordinary session of the commission which was adjourned after three meetings, starting January 25. According to Syria, Israel’s charge in the March 7 complaint that Syria was responsible for eight sabotage incidents between January 28 and March 3 was “deceptive.”
