A U.S. official told reporters that the speech, Syria’s first since it assumed a seat on the U.N. Security Council, was “outrageous.” Syrian representative Fayssal Mekdad said the Security Council engages in a double standard in denouncing terrorism around the world but avoiding criticism of Israel.
