Syria is mobilizing all possible efforts to prevent the adoption by Arab countries of the American plan for the regional development of the Jordan River waters, it was indicated here today in radio broadcasts from Beirut on the eve of the expected arrival in Israel and the Arab countries of Ambassador Eric Johnston for further negotiations on this plan.
One broadcast said that the Palestine Arab refugees had sent a delegation to the Jordan Government and had submitted a memorandum urging rejection of the Johnston plan. Another broadcast claimed that Israel authorities have decided to divert the course of the Jordan River into the Negev and that this is causing difficulties for “American political circles” who allegedly fear that this will scuttle the Johnston plan.
