Jews proceeding to Oriental countries via Beirut, will not be permitted to make a stop-over here, according to new regulations issued.
The change in procedure has been arranged, it is learned, upon the request of the Palestine government, on the ground that many tourists stop over in Syria with a view to entering Palestine illegally at a subsequent date.
On this ground, therefore, 51 men and 19 women were not permitted to land in Beirut, early this month. They were compelled to remain on board the steamer and to disembark at ports some distance from Palestine.
