Syria has asked the Arab League to convene its economic council immediately to reconsider the trade agreement reached between Israel and the European Economic Community, it was reported here today.
The Israel-EEC agreement, reached on April 27, will be signed on May 6 by Alex Herbst, director-general of external relations of the EEC and Ambassador Amiel Najar, head of the Israeli mission to the EEC. The date of the final signatures and entry of the pact, which gives Israel substantial tariff cuts on a number of major exports, will be announced later.
