A Syrian delegation headed by United Arab Republic Vice President Nureddin Kahala, left for Moscow this week-end to sign contracts for some 20 development projects involving the expenditure of more than $300,000,000, it was reported here today.
The projects, which will be carried out under the terms of the 1957 Syrian-Soviet Economic Cooperation Agreement, are designed to double the Syrian national income within 10 years. The most important project is the construction of a huge dam on the Euphrates River in northern Syria, which would provide water for the irrigation of 1,500,000 acres of land. The contracts will reinforce the position of the Soviet Union in the United Arab Republic.
