Syrian President Bashar Assad reportedly proposed a peace visit to Jerusalem last year, but was turned down by Israel. “Israel missed a one-time, golden opportunity to resume talks with Syria under ideal conditions when Assad did not rule out a meeting with Prime Minister Sharon in Jerusalem,” Ma’ariv quoted an Israeli official as saying Wednesday.
