Syrian President Hafez Assad sent President Clinton a letter this week saying he wants to reach a peace agreement with Israel. But, a U.S. official was quoted by the Associated Press as saying, the letter offered no breakthroughs, making it evident more diplomacy would be needed to achieve one.
