Syria’s foreign minister said no progress was made toward renewing talks with Israel during a meeting he had Wednesday in New York with U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Farouk al-Sharaa added that Syria is waiting for Israel to signal its willingness to return all of the Golan Heights, including lands bordering the Sea of Galilee, before resuming the talks. Albright, who is trying to get the two sides back to the negotiating table, had no comment after meeting with Sharaa.
