Blank check legislation for the admission of ? 75,000 to 150,000 DP’s to the U.S. will probably be introduced in the next ?sion of Congress, Rep. Frank Chelf of Kentucky told reporters after a call at the ?te House today.
After his talk with the President, Chelf said he believed Truman would ? a statement on the question of DP’s when Rep. James G. Fulton, who was chairman ? special House Foreign Affairs Sub-Committee that studied the problems of dis?ed persons in Europe this summer, returns to make his report. Fulton is now in ?ly and is expected to return to the Capitol November 25.
The new bill would authorize the U.S. representative at the I.R.O. to make a ?itment for accepting some of the refugees, Chelf stated. He said he thought ?re would likely be a ceiling set, possibly about 150,000.
