Take America as an example, was the advice given to 200 prominent Hungarian personages who were present at a reception given in honor of Edmund Horwath of New York, president of the American-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce, who is on a visit here.

America is prosperous and is progressing because discrimination in business is not applied on the basis of race or religion, only merit counting, the Hungarian leaders were told.

Former Minister Hegedues made a direct plea against anti-Semitism in Hungary. “Look at America,” he said, “where no one argues about race, where everybody is valued not according to his religion or origin, but according to what he can do.”

Mr. Horwarth warned his compatriots against the “ruinous luxury of discord” which works against the political and economic welfare of the country.

The guest of honor sat between Deputy Paul Sandor, Jewish member of parliament, and Mrs. Sandor.
