“Biro-Bidjan,” which opened Friday night at the Cameo Theatre, is the first Yiddish talking picture depicting the life of the new Jewish province in Soviet Russia, Biro-Bidjan. It is a documentary film depicting scenes of the new settlement, the natives tilling the fields, their cultural life and other achievements since its inception five years ago.

This is the first and only authentic picture taken there by Soviet cameramen. It has English superimposed titles for those who don’t understand Yiddish.

Esther Bernard in 1800 translated into German a book of the Countess of Genlis.
