The proposed merger of the Mapai Party and the Achdut Avodah will be carried forward with dispatch, but the Mapai’s merger negotiations with Ben-Gurion’s Rafi Party are being indefinitely postponed, it was reported here today at a meeting of the Mapai secretariat in which Prime Minister Levi Eshkol participated.
The decision has reportedly displeased the chairmen of the various Mapai branches who are said to favor complete unification of all three Socialist parties. Attempts are now being made to summon Mapai’s central committee to reverse the secretariat’s decision.
