Talks were suspended as a strike by Israel’s secondary school teachers entered its 12th day.
The Middle and High School Teachers’ Association is holding out for a large wage hike with no increased workload, and has the resources to continue the strike for three months, union head Ran Erez said Monday.
The teachers’ association turned down a package that included a pay raise combined with an increase in school hours. It was the same package that a union representing elementary school teachers accepted last year. The agreement also would give school principals more autonomy in hiring and firing decisions, which the union rejects.
Erez has called for the finance minister and the prime minister to become involved in the negotiations.
Meanwhile, senior university lecturers in Israel began a strike Sunday, the day classes were set to begin.
