Premier George Tatarescu’s government which went into office last January, a few days after the assassination of Premier Ion G. Duca, foe of Rumanian anti-Semites, resigned today.
Differences between the members of the cabinet which could not be reconciled led the Rumanian Premier to offer the resignation of the cabinet to King Carol. Premier Tatarcscu, who was Minister of Commerce in the Duca cabinet, upon assuming power, denounced the Iron Guard anti-Semites who murdered his chief and pledged himself to suppress anti-Semitism with an iron hand.
The king immediately entrusted M. Tatarescu with the task of forming a new government. It is generally believed here that the Premier will be able to form a liberal government along the same lines as the previous cabinet and with only a few changes in the personnel of the government. The cabinet crisis was provoked by the resignation, early today, of Minister of Trade and Industry Teodorescu.
Premier Tatarescu’s government, which was inducted into office on January 3, was preceded by the short-lived government formed by Constantine Angelescu which lasted for five days. Nicholas Titelescu, foreign Minister in the present cabinet, is generally regarded as the strongest figure in Rumanian politics and the long life of the Tatarescu government is usually credited to his presence in the cabinet.
