A one-day stoppage in all the Hebrew schools of Greater New York City yesterday involved more than 1,500 teachers and affected 60,000 Jewish children who are pupils in Hebrew Parochial Schools and Talmud Torahs.
The walkout was sponsored by the central committee of the Hebrew Teacher’s Organization, 425 Lafayette Street. Abraham Spirer, an unemployed teacher, directed the action.
“The walkout,” said Mr. Spirer, “was not directed against any one institution, school, person, or organization. It was held purely for the purpose of arousing public opinion against the conditions under which the Hebrew teachers in this city have been laboring for many years.”

The protests, Mr. Spirer said, are against the low salaries, unpaid salaries and vacations without pay.
