Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations said today that he would make a major effort to rally world opinion to force the Syrian regime to observe international law with regard to Israeli prisoners of war. Yosef Tekoah made the remark at Ben Gurion Airport as he left for New York to resume his post at the UN following a short leave and consultations in Israel. Asked if he would head the Israeli delegation to the Geneva conference when it is resumed, Tekoah said that possibility had been discussed but the government has yet to decide.

Tekoah accused the Egyptian authorities of continuing to disseminate anti-Israel propaganda at home and in international arenas and said they should stop this if they want to demonstrate that Egypt is sincerely interested in seeking a peace settlement with Israel. Tekoah noted that Egyptian textbooks are filled with anti-Israel references of a provocative nature and have adverse effects on children who grow up imbued with hatred of Israel.
