Yosef Tekoah, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, denied here a Syrian charge that Israelis forces had abducted three Syrian villagers from the Syrian village of Hadhar after Israel handed the village over to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force. In a letter to Secretary General Kurt Waldheim, Tekoah said that the three Syrians were detained “because of their active involvement in terror activities against Israel.
He added that the detention took place while the village was still under Israel control on June 16 and two days before it was evacuated and handed over to UNDOF. He said that “the Syrian allegation that the three persons were detained on June 19 has no foundation whatever.” Earlier Tekoah refuted Syrian charges that Israeli forces withdrawing from Syrian territory, had wrecked and destroyed Kuneitra and other villages.
