Rabbi Moshe Avigdor Amiel of Antwerp was today formally inducted as chief rabbi of Tel Aviv and Jaffa in the presence of an assemblage of about 100 rabbis of this all Jewish city and vicinity.
The 100 rabbis greeted him solemnly. Their representative then presented to him a nomination scroll and a manifesto outlining his duties.
Rabbi Amiel was welcomed at the railway station by a large delegation of orthodox Jews. An advance delegation had gone ahead to Alexandria to bring him greetings. Special festivities marked the arrival of the new chief rabbi, including a meeting of the rabbinate and a mass meeting of the Jewish community.
