Municipal workers went on strike here today when the city failed to meet their demand for a 15 percent wage increase.
The municipality rejected the demand because the government has prohibited wage increases. Premier David Ben Gurion, who has taken a personal interest in the matter, suggested that the workers should not be given a raise pending an investigation of their demand by a special committee. The Premier’s suggestion was ignored by the workers.
