Mayor Israel Rokach told the Tel Aviv Municipal Council today that a new university is being planned for Tel Aviv.
A new railway terminus will be built in Tel Aviv and a new bus terminal will be erected near the railway depot, he added. Entrance of trains into the city will be facilitated by construction of a bridge over the Yarkon River. Contracts for the new construction have been signed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Municipality of Tel Aviv with a private contracting firm.
A program for the enlargement and modernization of Lydda Airport to enable it to handle an increasing volume of international traffic was also announced today by Dov Yosef, Minister of Communications. The improvements will make the Lydda Airport the largest and best-equipped airfield in the Middle East, he said. Three new airfields are being constructed in Israel, the Minister announced. One, to serve Jerusalem, will be completed this year. The other two will be in northern Galilee and in the northern Negev.
