The population of the Arab village of Surmeil, which was recently incorporated within Tel Aviv, today was promised that Surmeil would have available all the health, education and transportation facilities of the all-Jewish metropolis. The pledge was given a delegation of Arab elders which visited Mayor Israel Rokach. Surmeil has 400 Arab and 60 Jewish residents.
A delegation representing the Jewish National Council, consisting of Isaac Ben-Zvi, Council president, and Dr. Abraham Katznelson, called on Chief Sec. J.V.W. Shaw of the Palestine Government today to discuss aid to soldiers’ families and the government budget for social welfare activities. The Chief Secretary also received Dr. N. Altman, Revisionist leader, today, prior to the latter’s departure for Cairo to head a newly-established Revisionist political bureau there. Dr. Altman also saw United States Consul-General Lowell C. Pinkerton.
A recreation center for visiting South African servicemen was officially opened today in the settlement of Ramath Yochanah. Named after Prime Minister Smuts of South Africa, the center was made possible by funds contributed by the Zionist Federation of South Africa.
