The temperance movement has reached the Holy Land. Announcement of the formation of the Jerusalem Temperance Society “to train the inhabitants of Jerusalem to abstain from using alcohol,” has just been made and Palestinians are urged to turn a deaf ear to the Society’s appeal for support.
There is “a pressing need,” says the Society, “for a cleaner city, a cleaner country, a more sober population, a happy family life, and peaceful relationship among young men and honest intercourse between individuals.”
