Ten Jews were killed by the earthquake in Orleansville, where 700 Jews reside, the Jewish Agency representative in this city reported today. Disaster teams were still digging in the ruins of Orleansville today, with more than 1,000 bodies already recovered.
The only synagogue in Orleansville came through the major 12-second shock and some 70 other minor tremors virtually unscathed, the Agency representative said. The building suffered several cracks, but these are easily reparable, he noted.
