Protests filed by Congressman Siegel with the State Department may have the effect of opening of the country’s doors to 10,000 additional immigrants from Poland between now and July 1. The Department of Labor two weeks ago announced that Poland’s quota had been exhausted but in a letter to the State Department, Siegel pointed out that Secretary Davis’ calculations as to the Polish quota were based on the separate classification of Eastern Galicia and the Pinsk region for quota and visa purposes. Siegel pointed out that these regions now form part of the Polish state.
In reply Secretary Hughes wrote that he had placed the matter before the Joint Classification Board of the Labor, State and Commerce Departments. Congressman Siegel is very hoopeful that the Joint Board will decide as he has suggested.
