Senator Robert LaFollette, Progressive candidate for president, was charged by Louis Marshall with using his government franking privilege to send through the mails a piece of literature definitely anti-Semitic. The Senator answered the charge by saying that he had not read the article in question and had used his frank as a favor to another Senator and had withdrawn it as soon as he discovered the nature of the article. His career, he said, was always pro-Jewish.
